What is MCP?

MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an AI tool to connect to supplier prices, stock, and product data in Priceboard — either by asking in chat or through agents that read the data automatically.

01 · Core idea

MCP connects the AI tool and supplier data

In Priceboard's case, that means prices, stock, and product data do not need to live only in files or a separate portal. They can be made available to AI in a clear, controlled, and current format.

Why this is useful

  • A standard integration method: MCP gives AI tools a shared way to communicate with external services and request data from them.
  • Controlled access: Access runs through tokens and defined permissions, so only the right users can see the right data.
  • Real workflow usage: Users do not need to copy data manually. The AI can request it directly where the work already happens.
02 · How it works

How Priceboard MCP works

Priceboard prepares the data, then the MCP connection is added to the AI tool, and after that the user can ask for the needed information directly in chat.

  1. Priceboard prepares the data: We structure prices, stock, and product data into a machine-readable format the AI can use reliably.
  2. The AI tool is connected with a command: The Priceboard MCP connection is added to the customer's AI tool through a single command or a simple config.
  3. Use data in chat or in agents: After connecting, you can ask in chat or let an agent read and process prices and stock automatically.

Two ways to use the data

The MCP connection is the same in both cases. The difference is whether you ask manually in chat or let the AI read and process data on its own.

  • Ask directly in chat: Connect Priceboard to your AI tool and ask about prices, availability, or product comparisons in a normal conversation — in Copilot, Claude, Cursor, and similar tools. Best for quick checks and ad hoc questions.
  • Build agents that read data automatically: Use the same MCP connection in agents and automated workflows — for example a Copilot Studio agent that checks prices every morning, or a tool that compares offers without you asking each time.

How to add the connection

After you create an account, the Connections section in the Priceboard buyer area shows platform-specific setup instructions (URL, authentication, commands).

  1. Create an account and sign in to the Priceboard buyer area.
  2. Go to Connections and create a new MCP access.
  3. Follow the guide for your platform there and test the connection with a simple question, e.g. "Which suppliers do I have connected?"

Example questions in chat

After connecting, you can ask about prices, availability, product comparisons, and supplier suggestions in chat. In agents, you can use the same MCP connection to read data automatically and produce summaries.
